Chicago Chapters Join for Annual "Day of Service"
on September 11, 2013

Five Chicago Chapters and AARP Illinois staff and volunteers packed 1,824 pounds of elbow macaroni into 912  2-pound bags. The dry pasta was shoveled from a 4'x4'x4' large container, then bagged, weighed & closed, then labeled, boxed in containers of 12 bags, and put onto a skid.  This pasta will be in the hands of the city-wide Food Pantries by the next day and in the hands of those in need possibly by the same next day or very soon afterwards.  The Greater Chicago Food Depository provides 69 million pounds of food to those in need in the Chicago area, 1/4 of which is fresh produce.
We welcome you to explore and learn about your local chapters.  AARP Chapters are nongovernmental, nonpartisan, nonprofit community service organizations.  Chapters get involved in making our communities better places to live by organizing and participating in a variety of community service projects.  Chapters make a difference in state and national issues as they receive state legislative alerts and information to influence policy decisions.  You will make new friends by meeting with people with similar interests and areas of concern.
